Raina Arien (Varis)

Raina carefully wrapped the leather straps on the ends of two chains around her hands, looking down at the unlit weights at the end of each. She was wearing what she called her 'casual' clothing, instead of the clothes she needed to wear for her performance. It wasn't safe to be a fire performer with skirts flying about. But there was no fire this afternoon, she was just exercising her muscles. That was what practice was, memorizing patterns further, remembering places where she didn't get it quite exact. Screwing up could mean a burn, or worse.

She looked over both shoulders and around the area. She could hear the sounds of others elsewhere in the encampment, but she could see no one at present. She hated being watched when she was practicing. It was silly, but she just didn't like it.

Decided that there was no one in the vicinity that would wander past and stare any time soon, she started the swinging momentum of the chains. They were slow at first as she moved them around, lower, but as the momentum built, it was easier to move her feet, and start the patterns she would go through for weeks at a time. Eventually she started humming to herself. This was about the time when she'd be less conscious of people who would stop, and more conscious of the movement of her feet, as well as the chains she held, and her skirt swirled as an addition, which she wouldn't have in an actual performance. Her feet were bare, as they were in performance. She'd found it easier to do this particular thing without worrying about shoes and their solid soles. One could say when she joined the Circus, she adopted the Tarot lifestyle, although she herself wasn't one.

Issac Meridian (Wren)

Voices called out to Issac in greeting, remembering him from times past, and Issac lifted his hand in simple greeting, before fading in and out between the tents. After all, he was not here to be noticed, but to find Maria. Lisa's concern had been great, and in these times ...The World needed to be strong. They all did.

Beyond that, Maria was Blood. Tarot. Family was everything to their kind, wanderers they all were.

Hm. However, it appeared he had wandered in the wrong direction.

He frowned, looking around for someone handy to give him direction ... and the sound of swirling chains caught his ears. He turned a little, moving towards the sound, opening his mouth to ask...

All sound died in his throat, as he stared at the vision of Warrior Woman before him, swinging those chains as if they were extentions of her arms.

----
Raina Arien (Varis)

Raina spun the chains several more times, one in a wide arch in front of her while the other was rotated around her head. She didn't realise she had an audience, that is until she tensed slightly for one of the more recent additions to her act, and spun herself in a circle, one foot back to balance, both on the balls, while she arched both chains over her head. It was then that she saw Issac, her dark eyes went wide and she stopped immediately, swinging her arms to bring the chains down, and the weights hit the soft ground with two muffled thuds.

"......I...Didn't realise I had an audience." Obviously she knew he wasn't from the circus. Most of them here knew enough not to be in possible sighting distance when she was swinging chains around.

-----
Issac Meridian (Wren)

"...You ...looked busy, and I didn't want ... I was just ...that looks very impressive."

Issac stopped speaking, realizing that one, he made no sense and two, he looked like a complete idiot in front of an extremely ...talented young woman. With chains.

"I apologize. I was looking for the Twins, and I got lost. I came here because ...well, I heard your chains. You know. Swirling."

Ah, that was so much better. Indeed.

Raina raised an eyebrow, before nodding.
"...Of course. I think the Twins went into town. Although, I wouldn't know for sure." She moved the poi in her hands slightly, starting to unravel the straps. They'd tightened since she'd put them on, and having pulled the weights down so quickly hadn't helped that. "..Either way, you won't find them here."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 10:27:33 PM)
"Oh, well, of course not. They don't swing chains about, after all." Issac said with a smile, as he mentally slapped his own forehead. Right. Remember who he was, what he was. He took a deep breath, then answered with absolute truth, "Pardon for my garbledness ...I've just never seen anything like what you've done. It's very impressive ...does it take much training to do what you were doing?"
A few steps forward, a curious expression overcoming his embarassment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 10:32:28 PM)
Raina smiled slightly. "I would suppose so, although I never had what you'd call 'formal' training." Self-taught, mostly. Although there had been a fire preformer at the Cirque before she herself had been swept up, and before he'd left he'd taught her quite a few of the basics. The poi was all self-taught, however.
"...It isn't half as impressive as it is when they're lit. Are you a friend of the Twins?" Going back into why he's here. She tilted her head slightly as she finished unwinding her hands, and moved to grasp both chains with her left hand.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 10:35:33 PM)
"...They're usually on fire. My. Somewhat frightening, but still more impressive... ah!" Issac came back to himself again, remembering what he was here for, after all. He chided himself for even momentarily letting his focus be unbalanced by a pretty face. "Yes, my name is Issac Meridian -- I'm good friends with them, and Harper as well. You must be fairly new with the company ... or I haven't come by in quite some time."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 10:55:26 PM)
She nodded. "Not terribly new. My name is Raina Arien." now that her hands weren't bound she stepped forward and held out her hand. Handshake form, mind. If he was a friend of Harper's, it was better to be friendly, not that she'd been hostile to begin with. He hadn't really seemed from the moment she'd seen him (even during the inital shock) to be someone to be hostile towards.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:03:51 PM)
Raina. Raina Arien. Beh could write songs about that name...oh, handshake. Issac took her hand, and shook it firmly but not with the muscle-bound need for men to crush hands. A man confident with his own grip on just about everything. He offered her a warm smile, a crinkle about his green eyes. "Well, you're still new to me. How do you like the Circus so far?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 11:16:31 PM)
She answered with a firm handshake of her own, one you might expect from someone who had just been swinging chains over her head in a potentially dangerous fashion if she had had no idea what she was doing. Her hands were roughed from the leather of the straps, and in addition there was a small burn along the heel of her palm she'd given herself three weeks ago when she'd been practising with the fires lit. It wasn't a perfect art, by any means. The burns came and they'd leave again. The price of playing with fire.
To answer his question, however. "I do enjoy it here. There's a feeling of home." Although people tended to judge less on social status and eyes around here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:19:22 PM)
"Harper's good at that ...he even makes me feel at home and I am probably the stiffest person he knows." Issac offers, stepping back and sliding his hands into his coat pockets, trying not to twitch. He was nervous enough to fall all over himself, so the less he moved, the best. "Is that what you do? Swing flaming chains about and dazzle people?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 11:27:38 PM)
"..Poi, actually." She smiled slightly, beginning to coil the chains so they weren't dragging on the ground. "....At the moment, yes. I have a bit of variety of what I can do, although the poi is my actual act." She finishes coiling the chains, and purses her lips slightly. "..You could say, I light things on fire and try not to burn anyone."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:32:48 PM)
"...Well, that sounds ...dangerous, for one. It might be the one act that would get me to see the circus for entertainment value." Issac smiled again, then looked at the chains still on her wrists. 'Oh, you idiot. She's still practicing.' "I wouldn't want to keep you - I mean, I am sure you need the practice." A pause, then Issac cleared his throat. "To perfect your act. Not that your act would need perfecting, from what I've seen."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 11:35:30 PM)
Raina laughed slightly, tilting her head downwards to look at the chains in her hand, to shade the slight color rising to her cheeks.
"That's kind of you to say, but it has quite a bit of work. I was just warming up though. I wouldn't have gone on much longer besides."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:36:50 PM)
"...well, if you won't be much longer, perhaps you could show me where the Twins stay? I am, after all, still lost." Issac tilted his head a little, a small smile clinging to his lips. "You wouldn't want me to wander in on anyone throwing knives, would you?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 11:42:49 PM)
Raina laughed. "Oh no. Kiki's nowhere near the Twins either." She smiled, and reached behind her head with her right hand, pulling the band that held her hair in the loose bun she wore while practise (and preformance, although she's careful to make it tighter then) free and allowing her hair to fall to her shoulders. "I'm done. I'll show you to their wagon." She tucked the band in the pocket of her skirt, and then walked past him back in the direction he'd just come.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:48:44 PM)
...Guh...
Pretty hair. Pretty golden curls that tumbled free like Beh's words, Ultan's laugh, Harper's smile and so many other things. Issac actually had to keep himself from reaching out to touch it. Instead he spent a moment composing the flush on his face, before turning slowly to join her. "I thank you kindly, Miss Raina, and will owe you a favor in turn."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/11/2004 11:56:40 PM)
Raina smiled slightly, walking through the wagons and tents in obvious knowledge of where she was going.
"Its just Raina, if you will." She'd never been comfortable with anyone referring to her as 'Miss' anything. Quite possibly because growing up the only time she heard it was when she was in trouble for something her sister had probably done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/11/2004 11:57:49 PM)
"Raina ...that's a lovely name." Issac said, falling into step beside her. "You must call me Issac, then. All my friends do. Well, besides Ultan and Beh, but they're annoying bastards who like to taunt me."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raina Arien (Varis)
(5/12/2004 12:08:33 AM)
"I'm not sure where it comes from.. It isn't a typical Red name, so I'd think it came from my mother..." She shrugged slightly, as if this wasn't an odd thing for someone to say and instead raised an eyebrow.
"..Issac it is, although I'm curious as to what these 'taunting bastards' call you." A corner of her mouth lifted slightly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Issac Meridian (Wren)
(5/12/2004 12:12:33 AM)
"...They are known to call me many things, but they prefer Issa-y." Issac rolled his eyes, but with good natured aggrivation. He shrugged at the almost smile on her face. "What can I say? Friends as long as we have all been -- they like to taunt me. They like to see me smile."
